In 2011, the baby boomers are aged between 46 and 65. That means 50% of executives are at traditional retirement age now. In 2022, more people will be leaving the work force than entering it. Make it easier to pass the business on to a buyer or another family member by developing the manual for your business. You’ll be needed for less time during transition, allowing you to step out when you feel ready, not when the next person feels ready to take over.
Remote work force
The Internet has revolutionised the way we work, together with the generational shift in the way we’re choosing to structure our lives. We’re wanting to be able to work from home if we want, we want to be able to choose our hours. For those with mortgages and young children, that sort of flexibility is essential. On the other side of the fence, businesses are rationalising expenses and outsourcing parts of their supply and service processes. As the owner or manager, you’ll get less questions and your staff members will be empowered to handle almost any crisis. Documentation takes the panic away and when that happens, the staff turnover lowers, you’ll find more time for new projects instead of dealing with crisis management. And by monitoring the incidents that do occur repeatedly, you’ll find ways to automate some of the process or find solutions to stop them repeating. The solution may just become a new product or service that you may not have discovered otherwise.
